I got a job I got a job I got a job!!!!!!!!!!

Wahaha...it feels so good to finally be able to say this!!! Just got a call from someone at IRAS..apparently she called me yesterday but I missed the call, then when I called back, their office had closed. Aniwaes, she told me that the phone interview last week was a success! Whoopee! So I start work in Feb...hahas. Acty, I honestly doubt that they'll need me all the way until June/July, but having a job now is better than having none. Heh. Maybe I can count this as an early bdae present? Lol.

Ohh yes, I wanted to update about tuition last night, but I had to go out just now to help the caretaker of the students in question to buy books. Dun get what I'm saying? Nvm, I dun really either. Hahas.

Did mention that I accepted the assignment to tutor P3 and P4 china students..and last night was my first lesson. They live in this condo apparently, occupying 2 units, and there are really alot of them can. I felt so intimidated when I reached. Hahas. At first, all went pretty well. I tutored four P4 kids in math, and they're really quite nice. 2 of them are pretty smart too. Heh. It's easy to remember their names cos' only got 4, but there's one girl whose name I think I'll nvr forget. She's called Bai Xue. When I found out her name, I had to fight back the urge to call her Bai Xue Gong Zhu (Snow White). Lol. After an hr of tutoring them, came the P3s...definitely a cuter bunch, and btw, contrary to popular belief, they really do not look like PRCs. Hahas. So many of them small sized and so cute! Heh. But, that's where the cuteness ends. Sigh. I had a helluva time giving them tuition can. =(

Went throught their school work with them one by one, with the rest clamouring for my attention at some other hard-to-solve questions. Basically, they just don't understand the idea of "one-by-one". So, I was basically checking a girl's science homework, while trying to answer another boy's math question, and attempting to get a second girl to wait for her turn. What a mess. Aniwaes, that wasn't the bad part. The terrible part is, there was only one of me trying to catch the attention of 10 of them. Yes, I know, 10 may seem little as compared to a normal class of 30 over pupils, but believe me, halfway through the lesson, I was ready to slam the table or throw a book at them or whatever else that could possibly quieten them down. Sigh.

In short, going through the assessment book with them was a waste of time, cos' they just kept talking among themselves and refused to listen, no matter how I tried to make them listen to me. Bleah. I'm thinking, for the next lesson, I'm going to split them up into 2 groups. Or I'll really die.

Naughty they may be, but some of them are seriously cute. Hahas. There was this girl, I think she's called Lily, who was wearing a spag top with straps that were apparently too loose. So she came up to me and said in chinese, "Teacher! It's too loose! Help me to tie can??" Obviously, she just had to tug at them later, causing them to come untied. So I had to retye them again. At which, another small little boy muttered something insulting which made Lily glare at him. Lol. Then, there was this other boy (I forgot his name) who didn't get a single question correct for his assessment practice. Apparently, it turned out that he had copied the answers from the back, but because there was an answer to a question missing, he copied everything wrongly. Meaning to say, he copied the answer to qns 11 for qns 10, and so on. When I asked him how could he have gotten them all wrong, he muttered, "Copy also can copy all wrong..." While I tried to admonish him for not doing his work by himself, I couldn't help but be amused. Lol.

It wasn't easy teaching them sia..having to automatically answer to whoever calls out "Teacher!" or "Laoshi!", trying to make them keep quiet, attempting to look stern and failing...it just ain't my style to scold little kids lah. In fact, the P4s later told the lady (their caretaker or guardian or sth) that I was too "wen rou", meaning gentle. I think alot of pple will probably roll eyes at this huh. Lol. But I really dunno how to be stricter!!! Sigh. How exasperating.

They are cute, but quite hellish to teach. So, if there comes a day when I'm just too busy or whatever, I'll probably quit this one and see how lah. I'm thinking that once I start work, trying to cope with tuition every night after work will be worse than hell. Eek.

Okays..I'm still a little bit on cloud nine. Hahas. Finally being able to stop contributing to society's unemployment figures! Lol. So...I still have abt 2 weeks to slack and play all I want before all my time will be spent in an office...hahas. Better make full use of it. Hmm. =]

2:31 PM

I'm so bored at home.

Just got myself another tuition assignment. Which brings the total count to 4. While it means more money, it also means that I have to sacrifice all my weekday nights! As well as my Sundays. Morning and afternoon. Sigh.

I miss everyone! I miss Jeannie, Joan, Melfy, Peishan, Xtina...all of you! When can we meet up again?

And my IJ clique! We're meeting on Sat! Yays! That's 4 more days to go...till then, I'm just gonna slack in the day and tutor at night...

How nice it would be if I didn't hafta worry about money at all. Then nonit to find work. Nonit to give up my nights for tuition. Ah well.

New tuition assignment tonight. I accepted the group tuition thingy. I'm starting to regret though. Sigh. Seems like out of the 4, I still like to tuition Alexis the most. Maybe cos' she's the closest to my age. And Lit is a subject I like. Hahas.

Okays, I dun wanna blog anymore liao. Horrible headache. Or issit earache? I suspect it has gotta do with my stupid wisdom tooth. It's growing lah. Got four! Wth.

And it hurts. =(

But for now, my head hurts more. -ouchies- Okays, I'm either gonna sleep it off or go and search for panadol. Sigh. Bye peeps.

4:13 PM

Actually, it feels pretty good to be unemployed. Except for the money factor. I'm basically slacking my days away, waking up late, watching TV, surfing the net, going out with friends who are free and so on...in short, the lifestyle of a pig lah. Hahas. I guess I could live with this, just that I'm really broke. And it gets pretty boring sometimes too. There's only so much tv i can watch, so much time I can use the computer..even as I'm typing this, I feel abit sian of looking at my computer screen. Sigh.

Okays, let me update abit on ytd..

I went for my first tuition lesson with a new student..this pri 2 china girl who needs help with English. And in my opinion, ALOT of help. I'm not trying to say she's damn lousy or what, but it's a fact that her standard is far from that of a normal P2's. We went through about half the stipulated 1.5hrs before I actually realised that she knew nuts about whatever I was saying. When I say nuts, I mean absolutely nothing. Including sentences like, "Do you know what this word means?", "Can you pronounce this for me?", "Repeat after me.", etc etc. I gotta admit, I was too shell-shocked to say anything for a few seconds. In the first place, she struck me as an extremely reticent little girl. Something I'm not used to cos' the little girls I know are mainly talkative and cute little rascals who jabber non-stop. Lol. But Yang Dan (yes, that's her name) is waaaaay different. Then it occured to me later, that's cos' she didn't understand whatever I was saying, so she couldn't answer. She didn't wanna tell me though. Say that she didn't understand at all. She just remained silent, or alternately shook and nodded her head occasionally. To what, I have no idea. So you can't blame me for getting a teeny weeny bit frustrated at some parts of the lesson. In fact, I spent the entire 1.5hrs teaching her the meaning of 10 words (for school spelling), how to spell them and how to pronouce them. In total, I think I went through the list with her about 8-10 times, cos' she'd promptly forget everything I taught her after every time. Even by the time I left, she still barely remembered about half the list. I'm guessing that by now, she's forgotten them all again. Sigh.

But she's a pretty cute girl lah. Like, giggling at her own mistake when she pronounces 'j' as 'g' and when she missed out the 'e' in 'pocket'....still, I wun say it's easy to teach her. What should have been an english lesson became half chinese cos' I had to speak in chinese to make her understand. And it gets pretty embarrassing cos' my own chinese is so lousy, and I'm speaking to a chinese national. I bet her chinese is tons better than mine can. It didn't help that her mum was in the same room, and she probably sniggered at every mistake I made while speaking to her daughter in chinese. -_-''

Oh wells. And I just received a call asking if I want to teach a group of P3 and P4 china students english and maths. I'm thinking of my experience with Yang Dan yesterday and I'm shuddering. Not that I have anything against china students. It's just that, if they all turn out to be like her or slightly better than her only, I'm in for a helluva tough time. I haven't agreed yet, but my daddy thinks I have nth to lose. In fact, he reasons that it's easier teaching a group cos' all I hafta do is go there and teach and talk, as compared to extreme interaction with just one student. And, if I really can't cope, I can just quit. Then, I'm reminded of what the agent told me. That they're looking for someone responsible. So, yeah. Should I accept the assignment or not?

Argh.
